Pill Pockets

This is all the medicine that Jenny has to take these days.

"I don't like to take medicine."

I know, Jenny.
It has been a struggle trying to get her to take it.  I tried putting it in cheese, peanut butter, turkey, etc.  She won't even eat those foods now because she associates them with medicine.  A lady I work with heard me talk about this problem and one day she brought me a package of these, Greenies Pill Pockets.  Wasn't that sweet?  Well, I am so thankful for that kind gesture because now Jenny will take her medicine.  They come in all different flavors.  We have tried peanut butter, duck and pea, chicken, and smoked hickory.  She likes them all.  The duck ones don't smell too great to me, but the others don't smell too bad.  I guess they mask the medicine smell so I am thankful.  Anyway, if you have a doggie who has to take lots of pills and doesn't like to take them...you might want to give these a try!

"YUM! Treats!"
See she loves them!

Merry Christmas!

Here are a few pictures of Jenny enjoying her Christmas!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!

"Hmm...these smell like they belong to me."

"What do you mean, wait?!"

"Let me see if I can get it."

"I can't get it."

"Ooooh, I do like these!"

"It's sad when all that is left is wrapping paper."

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!
Jenny has been sick these past few weeks, so
we haven't been baking.  She is slowly improving, but
has to be on lots of medicine.  She is having heart problems.
So, I am thankful this year to have her feeling better.  This is a
picture of her at grandma and grandpa's in 2011 (she's allowed on the couch there).  She is getting ready for her Thanksgiving nap!

Here is Jenny this year with her bed in the kitchen so she can watch me cook for Thanksgiving.  Her meal was chicken and rice with some green beans.  She was sad she didn't get what we were having.  Did you enjoy your meal, Jenny?
"It was tasty, but would have liked some noodles and mashed potatoes!"

Halloween Cookies

"Boo!"

That's right, Jenny.  It's almost Halloween!
"I know, I was hoping I would get some treats."

Of course, what's Halloween without treats?!
Let's make Halloween cookies.

All we have to do is mix some pumpkin, flour, an egg, water, and a pinch of salt to make our dough.
"Smells super tasty."

Then roll out and cut into shapes.  I'm using Halloween shapes.
"Clever."

Don't they look cute?
"I'd rather find out how they taste."

They have to bake for 30 minutes.
"Of course."
How about we think about past Halloweens while we wait?
"If that's what you want to do...I'm watchin' the oven."

Here's a picture of a spooked Jenny a few years ago.
(2010)

Here is another picture from 2010.
Sticking your tongue out at me because I was
trying to put a witch hat on your head.

Here is a picture of you in 2011 with your stuffed ghost.

Here you are in the doorway last year. (2012)

Here are this year's pumpkins.  Jenny was pleased
that we chose a Scooby Doo theme.

I love your collar.  I guess that's your costume
since you won't let me dress you up.

OK, it's time.  They should be cool now.
"Hallelujah!"

Trick or Treat...treat of course.
"Yum!"

Here is the recipe
1 cup wheat flour
1 1/2 cup rice flour
1/2 cup pumpkin
pinch of salt
1 egg
water

Mix all ingredients together (add enough water to form a dough).  Roll out dough and cut into shapes.  Place on a lined cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins.  Cool and enjoy.

Fall Treats

It's Fall!  I love fall.  I love the smells, the colors, the weather, and especially the food...pumpkin!  I think Jenny agrees so we are going to make these yummy Pumpkin Fall Treats.

"Smells good in here."

"Sniff, sniff, sniff...yep, I smell treats!"

First we have to mix all the wet ingredients.
Then mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.

Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick and cut into shapes.
I think I'll do hearts and bones.
"I do love bones!"

Place on a lined cookie sheet and bake for 40 minutes.
"I knew I'd have to wait."

Jenny, your fall collar goes nice with the color of your fur.
"I'm trying to concentrate here."

"This seems to be taking forever...can't you speed it up?"

"I'm getting tired.  Are they done yet?"

They're done, but they are cooling.  Do you like the picture I made?
"I would like it better if it was in my mouth!"

Here you go, you can have a piece of one.
"Why just a piece?"

"Slurp! That was very tasty."

"I need another piece, however, I would prefer a whole one."

Here is the recipe:
2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 cup pumpkin
2 Tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs

Mix all ingredients together.  Roll out dough 1/2 inch thick and cut into shapes.  Place on a lined cookie sheet.  Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.  Let cool and serve.  Store in an airtight container.

The couch

When we lived at our old house, Jenny was always allowed to sleep on the couch.  It was her bed.

She loved being on her little blankie on the couch.

Since we moved to our new house and got new couches we decided to buy Jenny a really nice L.L. Bean bed and not allow her on the couches anymore.  She wasn't too keen on this idea, but she got used to it.  Although, at night when we go to bed we can hear her toenails click down the hardwood floor hallway to our bedroom to make sure we are in bed, then we hear the clickity clack back down the hallway to the living room and then a thud as she jumps on the couch.  She always seems to be back in bed by morning...or when she hears us get up, we hear her jump down and get in bed as if she had been there the whole night.  Sometimes she leaves a blankie on the couch that she had put up there in the night or sometimes she doesn't hear us and gets caught!

"OOPS!"

Jenny's paper bowl

Jenny was really sick over the summer.  We found out she had fluid around her heart and in her lungs.  While she was sick I had to take a paper bowl to her in bed so she would drink chicken broth and water.  Well, ever since she refuses to drink out of anything besides a paper bowl.  Maybe she thinks it makes her feel better?

So as you can see...the paper bowl is inside her regular bowl so she will drink her water.  She's silly.
